Tyler Kydd
Seventh-grader Tyler Kydd speaks with compassion and wisdom far beyond his 12 years. Since age ten, this honor student at Plainfield Community Middle School has been a mentor for children with special needs or from backgrounds of abuse and neglect. He works with his peers to “bring them back on their feet” while giving them the friendship and support that comes so naturally for him. He volunteers with the Indianapolis Institute for Families, where he serves in an active youth leadership role. Leading by example, he has passionately worked to assist many charitable organizations such as a homeless shelter in need. This aspiring architect is already building an amazing legacy of strengthening young lives – both his and the many that he touches.

Pastor Karen Devaisher
Finding just the right words to illustrate Pastor Karen Devaisher’s commitment to ministry isn’t hard to do. Just ask the 13 members of Avon United Methodist Church that nominated her for a Treat People Better award. Heartfelt emotion poured into the stories as they described their friend and spiritual leader as someone “who never says no” and who has “impacted my life as no one else has.” Known affectionately as “PK” by her congregation of 850 members, Pastor Devaisher lights up when talking about her passion for pastoral care. “I love people, not paper,” she said with an impish grin while waving away the files on her desk. As senior pastor, she helps direct her church’s vision, including ministering to families within her church and community through outreach programs, disaster relief, veterans support and feeding the hungry. “I feel very privileged to be a part of this church community,” she says.

Dr. James Nossett, Emergency Department Physician, Medical Director of EMS, PHI Dove Flight and O’Reilly Raceway Park
Dr. James Nossett, Hendricks Regional Health emergency department physician, has been an integral part of emergency medical services in our community for 15 years. As medical director of Emergency Medical Services, PHI Dove Flight and O’Reilly Raceway Park, Dr. Nossett oversees nearly 700 affiliate providers in Hendricks and Morgan counties. First responders from 17 agencies count on him as their mentor, and he takes that role very seriously – evidenced by the time he spends getting to know them on a personal level. Whether he is on the scene himself in his familiar red truck, or going over a “run” on the phone or e-mail with a provider, he is devoted to ensuring first response agencies are equipped with the latest medical knowledge and techniques to save lives in emergencies every day in our community. “We have some of the best EMS providers around, and I am proud to work with them,” he said.

Missy Bremer, Patient Financial Services Representative
The annual Treat People Better Awards has brought nominations for many Hendricks Regional Health associates, including support staff, nurses and other care providers. But once patients go home, the Treat People Better philosophy doesn’t end. As a patient financial services representative, Missy Bremer works to assist patients in applying for financial assistance or arranging a payment plan after they have received medical care. She receives phone calls, e-mails or personal visits from up to 50 patients every day, many who are concerned about a medical bill.
Missy makes what could be a stressful situation better by speaking with every person as if they were a personal friend or a member of her own family. One of her nominators was forever touched by Missy’s helping hand during a difficult pregnancy. “Not only did she help me in my time of need, she gave me reassurance that it would all work out in the end. I now consider Missy to be a dear friend and I truly am indebted to her for going the extra mile for me and my family.”
